untitled (fence)

I stood beside a fence, a chain-link fence, when I was ten. It occurred to me in that moment that I would die. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but maybe today or maybe tomorrow. In that moment I felt all of the connections God had made, inside me, outside of me, all a part of me, and I wept. In that moment my time was not my own and I could see myself young and old. I yearned for things of the past that had yet to be and looked forward to events not possible. I stood beside a fence, a chain-link fence, and there I was, ten and ten times ten.
