Beyond the Gate

The creaking of a distant gate;
Breaking waves through the fog,
Settling among the mossy rocks.
My tired fingers play a somber song.
In the blackness, iron bends to the will of empty men.
None of whom I call my friends.
The gate, it swings again.
Some specter crawling on my skull sips liquid dripping from my pen,
Mixing hope with reality.
My mind locked up in fantasy,
I let them in again.
Keys of bone within my grip,
Hear my voice deteriorate in unclean spaces.
Hark this humble, humble, humble cry-
Do not let them in.
All who pass beyond the gate will hurt you.
Latch it tightly before each frost.
This chasm of hate protects us.
Do not forget me.
Lock it now before all is lost.

Mass Effect

I do not love the ephemeral world.
I have no attraction to material.
Instead I lust for the unspoken double entendre.
I quiver in ecstasy at the interwoven fibers sprung from wings of unseen butterflies.

With Crows

I am with crows.
I see them watching from my star-crossed lover’s eyes.
My descent into madness is not descent but elevation.
At my window, in the air, on my pillow as I dream.
I walk the streets surrounded by their ever-present loneliness.
They mock me as I mingle among the dead.
The shudder of my heart, miscalculated.
They quiver with gilded tongues.
In this pestilent hour, I rest my hope on darkness.
I am never alone.
I am with crows.

Action

Mama Chicago
Licking the gravestones
Where does my true talent lie?
In your lover’s eyes.
Hear these words and gallop on the shores of broken horses.
Share what cannot be seen and what never can be spoken.
Lift up my dreams and touch them to the stars.
Up the pass, past the claws of shattered wood.
Alive like me, live like them, but know this as you should.
Mama Chicago
Sleep on a story so far away it quells the heart of all that’s ill.
Think well of me in the din of your curiosity.
Life’s choices;
Whispers in many voices.
Make one and raise the other and raise one and make the other.
Make one and raise the other and raise one and make the other.
Make one and raise the other and raise one and make the other.

Phoenix

I cannot love you yet I love you.
Destine to hover above you.
Lashes and slashes forged in ashes.
Arise
Arise
Arise

untitled (fence)

I stood beside a fence, a chain-link fence, when I was ten. It occurred to me in that moment that I would die. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but maybe today or maybe tomorrow. In that moment I felt all of the connections God had made, inside me, outside of me, all a part of me, and I wept. In that moment my time was not my own and I could see myself young and old. I yearned for things of the past that had yet to be and looked forward to events not possible. I stood beside a fence, a chain-link fence, and there I was, ten and ten times ten.

Sometimes

Sometimes I look at old pictures and think, there I was.
Sometimes I look around and think, here I am.
Sometimes I look to the heavens and think, there I will be.
